LAST DAYS OF FREEDOM? - WATCH FOR THE INSURRECTION ACT 4/20

America’s mass demonstrations of April 19 will celebrate what could well be our last gasp of free speech and peaceful protest--UNLESS we get informed, mobilize, and continue to show up for our rights.

On January 20, 2025, his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order declaring the southern border a “national emergency.” This proclamation required the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security to, within 90 days, report to the president "about the conditions at the southern border of the United States and any recommendations regarding additional actions that may be necessary to obtain complete operational control of the southern border, including whether to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807."

The Insurrection Act empowers the President to deploy US military forces and the National Guard against American citizens in the case of civil unrest. 90 days from January 20 is April 20, and that’s when we can expect Fox news host / Signal-chat military planner /

defense secretary Pete Hegseth, and ICE-Barbie / Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem, to render their report to Trump. It’s hard to imagine that these supremely unqualified loyalists won’t recommend deploying troops to the “emergency” at the southern border.

Trump & co. have prepared the public for this for months, referring to immigration

as an “invasion” by “criminals,” and now raiding the Social Security database for data to cancel their Social Security numbers and thereby deprive them of bank accounts, jobs, and driver’s licenses so they will “self-deport.” The Bulwark rightly calls this prospect of invoking the Insurrection Act “a previously unfathomable step that would dramatically escalate the administration’s already deeply controversial detention and deportation efforts.” From there, following the playbooks of history’s dictators, Trump may well extend his power to criminalize American citizens and curb their freedoms.

Unless he meets vigorous opposition, he’ll target not just immigrants but everyone who disagrees with his anti-Palestinian, pro-mass-deportation, pro-DOGE, pro-fossil-fuel / anti-climate action, pro-insanetariff policies. Then it is just one step further to eventually impose martial law—to arrest protesters, and anyone who supports our immigrant brothers and sisters, without due process.

We have already seen the Führer’s bullying of universities and all levels of government into eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, killing their freedoms of speech and self-determination and wiping out their decades of expertise.

We have seen the way he is beating law firms and perceived political enemies into silence and submission. We have seen Supreme Court justices twisting themselves into pretzels of judicial equivocation in order not to rile him.

The sole remaining force to protect our free speech and our freedom of assembly is US, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Can we respond to the bully-in-chief with courage and solidarity?

N Kitsap, we urge you to come out in ever stronger numbers on April 19, carrying angry and hilarious and heartfelt signs that freely say what you think of this dangerous regime.

Nonviolent protest does not mean we are weak. Our voices are powerful and our numbers show that the majority of Americans do not support the destruction of our government and lawless actions against our people including immigrants.

Do not listen to any provocateurs who might goad you into fighting them - they are doing MAGA’s bidding to provide excuses for police or military intervention.

The voice of the people will prevail. WHEN WE FIGHT (peacefully) – WE WIN!
